4/15/25 Watchmen on The Wall Bible Study – Enemies In The Land (Supplement)

5 min read

When God leads His people into new territory, He doesn’t just hand it over without opposition. There is warfare involved, and the battles we face today are not just physical but deeply spiritual. Just as Israel had to fight against seven nations in the Promised Land, we also contend with spiritual forces that seek to block us from stepping into God’s promises.

But here’s the good news: God never sends His people into battle unprepared. He gives us insight into the enemy’s strategies, the structure of the demonic kingdom, and most importantly, the battle plans to overcome and walk in victory.

Let’s dive into:

1. The structure of the demonic kingdom and its influence.

2. The seven nations Israel faced and their spiritual significance.

3. Biblical strategies to overcome each of these spiritual strongholds.

4. The battle strategies God has given His people throughout Scripture.

Understanding the Structure of the Demonic Kingdom

Spiritual Warfare is Real……

The Bible reveals that the battles we face are not merely against people or circumstances but against an organized kingdom of darkness.

Ephesians 6:12 (AMP)

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this [present] darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) places.”

This passage reveals four levels of demonic governance:

1. Principalities (Rulers) – High-ranking fallen angels that exert territorial control over nations and regions.

2. Powers (Authorities) – Demonic forces enforcing laws and controlling systems, such as government, media, and economic influence.

3. World Forces of Darkness – Spirits that influence culture, promoting sin and rebellion against God.

4. Spiritual Wickedness in High Places – Entities responsible for occult activity, deception, and false religions.

The seven nations Israel faced in the Promised Land represent seven major demonic influences that still operate today. These are spiritual forces that work through culture, government, and personal struggles to hinder God’s people from fulfilling their divine purpose.

The Seven Nations and Their Spiritual Strongholds

Before Israel could fully possess the land God had promised, they had to confront seven powerful nations. These nations were more than just historical adversaries; they symbolize demonic influences that still seek to dominate believers today.

Deuteronomy 7:1 (AMP)

“When the Lord your God brings you into the land which you are entering to possess, and He clears away many nations before you—the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations that are greater and mightier than you.”

Each of these nations represents a specific type of demonic activity that believers must overcome:

NationDemonic InfluenceSpiritual Stronghold
HittitesSpirit of Fear & IntimidationAnxiety, oppression, mental torment
GirgashitesSpirit of Earthly-MindednessMaterialism, backsliding, lack of faith
AmoritesSpirit of Pride & Self-ExaltationArrogance, rebellion, self-worship
CanaanitesSpirit of Lust & CorruptionSexual immorality, greed, perversion
PerizzitesSpirit of Complacency & LazinessLack of discipline, spiritual stagnation
HivitesSpirit of Deception & False ReligionFalse doctrines, humanism, idolatry
JebusitesSpirit of Oppression & LegalismDiscouragement, religious bondage

These spirits work individually and collectively to resist the expansion of God’s kingdom. But God has provided clear strategies for overcoming them!

Biblical Strategies to Overcome Each Nation

Each demonic force must be confronted using spiritual warfare strategies found in Scripture.

God’s Battle Strategies Throughout the Bible

God never calls His people to battle without giving them a strategy for victory.

A. Divine Intervention – When God Fights for You

Exodus 14:13-14 (AMP) – “The Lord will fight for you while you [only need to] keep silent and remain calm.”

Strategy: Stand still and let God fight for you in some battles.

Colossians 2:15 (AMP) – “When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public example of them, having triumphed over them through the cross.”

Strategy: Christ’s victory is already secured, so we stand in faith.

B. Obedience-Based Warfare – When God’s Instructions Don’t Make Sense

Joshua 6:2-5 (AMP) – Jericho’s walls fell after Israel marched around them in obedience.

Strategy: Victory comes through obedience, even when it seems foolish.

1 Corinthians 1:27 (AMP) – “God has selected the foolish things of the world to shame the wise.”

Strategy: Follow God’s plan even when it doesn’t make sense.

C. Worship as a Weapon – Victory Through Praise

2 Chronicles 20:21-22 (AMP) – Jehoshaphat’s army won through praise.

Strategy: Worship brings spiritual breakthrough.

Acts 16:25-26 (AMP) – Paul & Silas worshiped, and an earthquake set them free.

Strategy: Praise breaks chains and opens doors.

D. Spiritual Warfare – Putting on God’s Armor

Daniel 10:12-13 (AMP) – Daniel’s prayers engaged angelic warfare.

Strategy: Prayer and fasting bring spiritual breakthroughs.

Ephesians 6:12-13 (AMP) – We must put on the armor of God.

Strategy: Truth, righteousness, faith, and prayer are weapons against the enemy.

Final Thoughts: Walking in Victory

The Israelites had to fight for their inheritance, and so do we. Whether it’s battling fear, deception, sin, or spiritual attacks, God has already given us the victory through Jesus.

No matter what you’re facing today, God has already given you the land. Now, it’s time to fight for it!
