It’s nearly midnight and as I lay in my bed I hear the cry of a 1-2 week old lamb. He’s crying out for his mom. He’s crying for help! As a shepherdess in Goshen, assigned by God to steward this land, I’ve come to know the cry of just about each sheep and lamb.
Because of the prompting of The Holy Spirit to get up and go out into the dark to investigate why the lamb is crying, I got up, put on my robe, and grabbed the flashlight. I listened for the continuous cry of the lamb and searched for him until I found him. Yes, there was a problem and he was in trouble. He got tangled up in some wires. I was able to catch him, untangle him, and return him to his mom. His mom was close by but couldn’t do anything to help him. Isn’t that just like us? Sometimes when we are in despair and in darkness our family cannot help. We need Jesus! We need the Shepherd! We need the light! It is with this revelation that I present today’s Daily Walk.
God is Sending You for the Sake of the Lost
When God calls us into new territory—whether it’s a new place, a new assignment, or a new season—it’s never just about us. It’s about His mission, His kingdom, and the people waiting to encounter Him.
Many times, we step into the unknown feeling unsure, wondering why God is moving us. But God’s heart is always for the lost, and He is sending us into places where people need to experience His love, truth, and salvation.
In the book of Joshua, we see this pattern clearly. God didn’t bring Israel into the Promised Land just to give them houses and vineyards. He was establishing His kingdom among the nations. And today, when He calls us to step forward, it’s because there are people in that land—lost sheep—who need to find their Shepherd.
1. God’s Call to Joshua: Leading with God’s Mission in Mind
Imagine being Joshua. Moses is gone, and now it’s your responsibility to lead millions of people into the land of Canaan. That land is full of people who don’t know the true God—they worship false idols, they live in rebellion, and they have never encountered the God of Israel.
Before Joshua steps in, God gives him clear instructions:
• Be strong and courageous. (Joshua 1:6)
“I know what you’re up against, but don’t be afraid. I am with you.”
• Meditate on My Word constantly. (Joshua 1:8)
“Let My truth guide you, because you are stepping into a land filled with deception.”
• Do not be afraid or discouraged. (Joshua 1:9)
“I am sending you as My representative. The battle belongs to Me.”
Mindset of a Kingdom Leader:
1. Trust God’s Presence – He’s already made a way.
2. Stay in the Word – You are stepping into places where truth is needed.
3. Courage is a choice – God is sending you for His purpose, not yours.
Joshua wasn’t just leading Israel into their inheritance—he was bringing God’s kingdom into a land that had been lost in darkness. Today, God is calling us to do the same.
2. God’s Call to the People: Ready to Be His Witnesses
It wasn’t just Joshua who needed to be prepared—the people had to be spiritually and mentally ready.
• Get your provisions ready. (Joshua 1:11)
“God is about to move—so be ready to go where He leads you.”
• Follow God’s appointed leadership. (Joshua 1:16-17)
“The mission requires unity—we must be one in purpose.”
• Sanctify yourselves. (Joshua 3:5)
“You are being sent as My people—set apart and holy.”
Mindset of the People:
1. Be Prepared – We are stepping into God’s assignment, not our own.
2. Be United – The mission is bigger than any one person.
3. Be Consecrated – The world needs to see a people who are different, holy, and full of God’s presence.
When God calls us into a new territory, it’s not just about gaining something for ourselves. It’s about bringing His kingdom into that place. That means we must be ready to represent Him well.
3. Why Are We Being Sent? The Heart of God for the Lost
God isn’t sending us just to occupy new space—He is sending us to reach people who are wandering like sheep without a shepherd.
A. The Lost People in the Land
• Before Israel entered Jericho, Rahab had already heard about their God (Joshua 2:9-10).
• God was working in Jericho before Israel even arrived! There were people in that city who needed salvation.
• Today, there are people in your new season who are waiting for you to arrive.
• Matthew 9:36 (AMP) – “When He saw the crowds, He was moved with compassion and pity for them, because they were dispirited and distressed, like sheep without a shepherd.”
The lost people in our cities, workplaces, and new territories are waiting for someone to bring them the truth—and God is sending you.
B. The Great Commission: Our Purpose in Every New Season
Jesus’ final words to His disciples were not just for them—they are for us today.
• Matthew 28:19-20 (AMP) – “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations [help the people to learn of Me, believe in Me, and obey My words].”
Every time God sends you into something new, it is an opportunity to advance the Gospel.
• Isaiah 61:1 (AMP) – “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the humble and afflicted.”
• Romans 10:14 (AMP) – “How will people call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?”
God doesn’t move us just for our comfort—He moves us so His kingdom can spread. There are lost people in every territory we step into, and they need to hear the Gospel.
4. Trusting God to Go Before Us
Crossing into new places comes with challenges, but here’s what we must remember:
A. God Always Goes Before Us
• When Israel faced the flooded Jordan River, God didn’t part it until they stepped in. (Joshua 3:15-16)
• He was already ahead of them, making the way.
• Deuteronomy 31:8 (AMP) – “It is the Lord who goes before you; He will march with you; He will not fail you or let you go or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
• Isaiah 45:2 (AMP) – “I will go before you and level the uneven places.”
If God is calling you into a new place, He has already prepared it.
B. Provision May Look Different, But It Will Be There
• When Israel entered the land, the manna stopped. (Joshua 5:10-12)
• God was still providing, but in a new way.
• Philippians 4:19 (AMP) – “And my God will liberally supply your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
Don’t panic if provision looks different. God is still providing—He’s just doing it in a way that fits your new assignment.
5. Are You Ready to Step In?
If God is calling you into something new, it’s not just about you—it’s about the people waiting on the other side of your obedience.
Here’s What to Remember:
1. Your mindset matters. The mission is bigger than your comfort.
2. Prepare yourself. Spiritually and practically.
3. Let go of the old. Some things can’t go with you.
4. Trust God’s provision. It may look different, but He’s still providing.
5. Step out in faith. The waters won’t part until you step in.
God is sending you into new territory because there are lost people waiting to encounter Him.
Will you step in and go where He is leading?
