Daily Walk Series: Kingdom Territory – Walking in Dominion and Advancing God’s Rule

5 min read

I keep thinking about that imp that showed up a couple of weeks ago—watching, spying, and challenging us as we prepared the new sanctuary. It wasn’t random. It was a reminder that whenever God is establishing something, the enemy takes notice. Whenever territory is being claimed for the Kingdom, resistance comes.

It also took me back to when I first came to Goshen and had a moment of powerful revelation: God had given me dominion over the land. It wasn’t just a vague idea—it was something tangible, something real. I realized it when a snake suddenly stopped in its tracks—not out of fear, not out of confusion, but as if it recognized authority. It didn’t move again until I stepped aside, allowing it to continue its path.

That moment wasn’t just a strange encounter with nature; it was a lesson in dominion. It was God showing me that when He assigns territory, He also grants authority. But dominion isn’t just something we receive—it’s something we must walk in.

What Does It Mean to Walk in Dominion?

God never calls His people to new ground without expecting them to establish His rule there. He gave Adam dominion in the beginning, not just to enjoy the earth but to govern it under His authority.

“God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subjugate it [putting it under your power], and rule over [dominate] the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and every living thing that moves upon the earth.’”
—Genesis 1:28 (AMP)

Dominion is not about control—it’s about bringing things into divine order.

When God sends us into a place, He expects us to:

  • Drive out what doesn’t belong—sin, oppression, demonic strongholds.
  • Establish what does belong—righteousness, justice, the presence of God.
  • Release heaven’s influence—so that what is bound on earth is bound in heaven, and what is loosed on earth is loosed in heaven (Matthew 16:19).

We are not entering spaces as visitors—we are stepping in as Kingdom ambassadors, sent to reclaim what belongs to the Lord.

But dominion is never given without opposition.

    Expect Resistance—Because Dominion Is Warfare

Stepping into new land means stepping into a battlefield.
  • Some territories have been ruled by darkness for generations.
  • Some strongholds have never been challenged.
  • Some people are bound so tightly they don’t even realize freedom is possible.

And when God’s people rise up to take dominion, the enemy resists.

Look at Israel. Every time God gave them a land, they had to fight for it.

“Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, I have given to you.”
    —Joshua 1:3 (AMP)

God had already given the land—but they still had to step on it, claim it, and drive out what didn’t belong.

    We should expect:
  • Spiritual warfare—Strongholds will resist being broken.
  • Opposition from people—Not everyone wants the kingdom of God to advance.
  • Moments of doubt—The enemy will try to make us question if we’re really called.

But if God sent us, victory is guaranteed. The land must yield. Darkness must retreat. But only if we stand in faith and fight.

How Do We Walk in Dominion?

  1. Be Spiritually Ready

Dominion is not for the weak or passive. It requires spiritual discipline—prayer, fasting, and being deeply rooted in the Word. If we are not spiritually full, we will have nothing to give when we face resistance.

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”
    —Ephesians 6:10-11 (AMP)

We cannot afford to be spiritually empty when walking into new land.

  2. Speak What God Speaks

When God brought Ezekiel to a valley of dry bones, He didn’t tell him to describe the problem—He told him to prophesy life into the bones.

“Prophesy over these bones and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!’”
    —Ezekiel 37:4 (AMP)

When we step into spiritually barren places, we don’t agree with what we see—we declare what God has said.
  • If the land looks desolate, we declare restoration.
  • If people are in bondage, we declare freedom.
  • If darkness has ruled, we declare the light of Christ.

  1. Walk in Boldness

Fear has no place in dominion. If we hesitate, we forfeit ground. But when we move with confidence in God, nothing can stand against us.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be terrified nor dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
    —Joshua 1:9 (AMP)

Where God’s presence goes, authority follows. And the enemy recognizes it.

No More Excuses—It’s Time to Take Ground

This is not just another assignment. This is Kingdom advancement.
  • God is giving us new ground.
  • He is sending us to confront darkness.
  • He expects us to establish His dominion.

But none of that happens if we are passive, hesitant, or spiritually asleep.
  • Jonah ran—and God had to shake him before he obeyed.
  • The Israelites doubted—and many never saw the land.
  • The disciples fell asleep—and missed a critical moment.

Let’s not repeat history. Let’s answer the call with boldness.

The land is waiting. Will we step up and take it?
