Daily Walk Series: What to Do When Our Resources Dry Up

1 min read

Daily Walk Series – 1 Kings 17:7-16

There are moments in our lives when the brook dries up—when the provision we once depended on is no longer there. This was the case for the prophet Elijah in 1 Kings 17:7-16. The brook Cherith, which had sustained him during a season of drought, dried up. But God had already prepared another source of provision—a widow in Zarephath.

Lessons from Elijah’s Season of Lack:

1. Recognize That God Is Your Source (Not the Brook)

• The brook was a channel, not the source. When one resource runs dry, it is not the end—it is a signal that God is shifting us to a new means of provision.

Philippians 4:19 (AMP)– “And my God will liberally supply (fill until full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

2. Obey God’s Next Instruction

• Elijah did not remain at the dry brook; he listened for the next step. God instructed him to go to Zarephath, where He had already commanded provision to be waiting.

Isaiah 30:21 (AMP)– “Your ears will hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ whenever you turn to the right or to the left.”

3. Trust in God’s Unexpected Provision

• The widow had only a little flour and oil, yet through obedience, she and her household were sustained. God often provides in ways that challenge our logic but deepen our faith.

Psalm 37:25 (AMP)– “I have been young and now I am old, Yet I have not seen the righteous abandoned Or his descendants pleading for bread.”

4. Give Even in Scarcity

• The widow gave from her lack, and God multiplied her resources. When we honor God with what we have, He ensures we lack nothing.

Luke 6:38 (AMP)– “Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over [with no space left for more]. For with the standard of measurement you use [when you do good to others], it will be measured to you in return.”

Final Encouragement

If you find yourself in a season where your “brook” has dried up, take heart. This is not the end—God is leading you to a new place of provision. Be open to His direction, trust His ways, and give in faith. The same God who sustained Elijah and the widow will sustain you.

Prayer:

“Father, help me to recognize that You are my source. Teach me to trust You when resources seem scarce and to obey Your direction without fear. I believe that You will supply all my needs as I walk in faith. Amen.”

Stay encouraged! God is already making a way. Selah! And Shema!
